MCi coaxial transfer switches for broadcast TV, AM, FM and UHF are available in a wide range of coaxial sizes from Type N up to 6 – 1/8″ EIA. Micro Communications transfer switches are equipped with a range of standard accessories and optional features. From 3-port and 4-port configurations, to options for connector types, interlocks, and control – the MCi coaxial transfer switch product line is one of our most popular and frequently purchased product lines.
MCi Switches: Design & Features
One unique feature of the MCi coaxial transfer switch is its co-planar port configuration. Typically, this assists in permitting a more orderly layout. Consequently, the layout will be more compact and require less coax elbows or bends. MCi offers coaxial switches with the following design features:
- Broadband
- Compact, Light Weight
- 3-Port and 4-Port configurations
- Independent interlock & logic circuits
- Compatible with computer control
- Available sizes:
- Type N
- 7/16″ DIN
- 7/8″ EIA
- 1 – 5/8″ EIA
- 3 – 1/8″ EIA
- 4 – 1/16″
- 6 – 1/8″ EIA
3-Port and 4-Port Coaxial Switches
As four-port coaxial transfer switches, the unit will switch two signal sources between loads. Since the switch can be used as SPDT, complex switching matrices can easily be assembled. Uniquely, the MCi switch is one-half to one-third the weight of other commercially available switches. In addition, the MCi coaxial transfer switch usually occupies between one-half and one-sixth the volume (space) of other comparable switches.
Control & Operation
For transmitter blanking, logic input or position indication, MCi offers independent interlock and logic circuits. This applies to all coaxial transfer switches except for the Type N model. The circuits are isolated from both the ground, as well as the switch control circuits. Additionally, internal interlocks are included to remove the drive power at the end of the switching cycle. This prevents inadvertent damage to the drive motor.
The action is accomplished by a standard, high-torque gear motor. It is bi-directional to positive stops. In the event of a loss of control power, switches may be operated manually.
Coaxial transfer switches can be controlled in: (1) groups, (2) singly (from a remote location) or (3) integrated with computer control logic systems. Given this, switches are ideally suited for use in unattended transmitter operations.
